The Valentine’s Day Singles Party

This year marks my fifth year hosting a Valentine’s Day event dedicated to the singles who don’t have someone special to spend the day with. In a wild twist of events, this party was recently featured in a press profile about my hosting career:

"Evelyn is dedicated to shaping a fully realized experience for each theme, ensuring guests are completely immersed. Her Harry Potter-inspired Hogwarts bash, for example, featured potion-making stations, house banners and floating candles. And the annual Valentine’s Day single party, complete with candy-coloured décor, interactive games, and Instagram-worthy installations, has become a tradition with her friends." - Read Article

I first launched this event in 2021 after going through a long-term breakup during COVID; I wasn't looking forward to spending my first single Valentine's Day alone at home, so I invited my single girlfriends over for a dinner party.

Since then, the scale has grown considerably. My guest list strategy is simple: I ask my entire social network to pass the invitation to anyone they consider an "eligible single" between the ages of 20 and 40. I welcome everyone into my home to spend the evening flirting with other singles instead of staying in. It has transformed the holiday from an occasion that feels sad into the most anticipated, flirty, and fun night on my friends' calendars.

I believe it is incredibly meaningful to have holidays that celebrate single people. When you’re in a relationship, there are endless milestones to celebrate—engagement parties, weddings, and baby showers. It can be lonely and expensive for single people to constantly celebrate everyone else without being on the receiving end of that same love and generosity. This party is my love letter to them. I use every hosting trick I know to "wingman" my friends, ensuring they have an evening where they don’t have to buy their own drinks, they leave with a gift bag full of chocolates, and they get a great photo of themselves holding a massive bouquet. Ideally, they also leave with the phone number of someone they sparked with.

This year’s party takes place on Saturday, February 14, beginning with a pre-drink at my loft in Yaletown before moving to one of the neighborhood's premier cocktail bars. The dress code is simple: wear whatever makes you feel most attractive. If you are a brand interested in getting involved or a guest looking to be added to the list, feel free to reach out.

Ways to get involved

1. If you're a single who would like to be invited to the party

2. If you're a reporter who would like to write about this party
Contact me evelyn@directionlesscreative.com 604 358 4324

3. If you're a brand who would like to get involved with this party
There are a few ways to do that:

  1. Organic product integration:

This is about making a deep impression on a select group of your target market. These parties are incredibly emotionally sticky because the vibe is a friend inviting you to their home, where they've clearly gone over the top to make your evening special. Nobody asked you to buy a ticket (unlike most brand activations). You can play the silly games and have the extra drink because nobody is judging you (unlike work events). The purpose of the party doesn't revolve around celebrating somebody else (unlike birthdays, weddings, etc). Under these circumstances, guests are universally in a glowing mood, are near certain to recall the details of this evening in their memory for years to come, and associate the products they experienced on the night with all those positive emotions. Organic product integration is about having your product at the party in a way where it will naturally make an impression by surprise and delighting people.

    1. It's being one of the beverage options I list when welcome my guests saying, "what can I get you to drink?"
    2. It basket of toiletries in the washroom that says "help yourself"
    3. It's gift bags with your hair and makeup products in my makeup room where every girl takes a photo every party.
    4. It's your product in the goodie bags I give guests to take home
    5. It's the scented candle / air freshener / perfume I spray before the party
    6. It's the dress that I am wearing, and the ones I loan my friends to wear

  2. Official sponsorship:

Transparently, this is your relationship with me. I am the party planner, host in my home, decorator, cleanup crew, influencer guest list curator, photographer, sponsorship coordinator, publicist, and everything in between. In all organic product integrations I don't make any money - your dollars go towards giving my friends & family at these parties wonderful experiences, which is worthwhile for me. Its free for your product to be at the party - but if you want to use the party for publicity/advertising, thats when you would pay me for creating this marketing campaign for you.

    1. I include your brand when I tell the story of this party to journalists
    2. I capture content on the night showing your brand at the party
    3. I give you an album of RAW video & photos from the event the day after
    4. You get unlimited commercial use of the party content (no time limit)
    5. Dedicated post on @evelynsparties tiktok and instagram with me talking through your brands unique integration into the party
    6. Image carousel of beautiful product shots showing your product in the party setting posted on @evelynsmartini tiktok & instagram
    7. Collab tag / ability to boost content  / spark ad / product tag all posts
    8. You can use me as a PR spokesperson to talk about this party
    9. You can describe this party as your event that I threw for you
